Ben attended the University of Miami and graduated from Broome Community College. While raising his four daughters he achieved his career goal of earning a Professional Engineering Certification. He worked as a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning professional engineer for General Electric, Cornell University, and several consulting engineering firms, including IBM and Dupont, until he retired in 2002.
After retirement, he was a passionate golfer, library volunteer, avid reader, member of the Lansing Writer's Group, member and recently president of the Lansing-Ithaca Rotary Club, and Treasurer of the T&G Investment Club.
Through the years, Ben was a softball coach for all four daughters through Lansing Recreation and a devoted fan of his daughters' and grandchildren's involvement in sports and extracurricular activities. He spent many weekends traveling out of town to visit his daughters and their families. He loved his family vacations to Ocean City, MD and Jamaica and was often found under the beach umbrella with a good book. Ben had the opportunity to travel with family members on many ski vacations, trips to Aruba, Florida, Las Vegas and many Caribbean cruises. Ben also appreciated spending time on Cayuga Lake on his boat "Mo", he treasured his many long-time friends, and loved living in the close-knit Lansing Community.
His unwavering faith in God guided him daily and he encouraged others to "keep the faith, stay positive, and pray". He will be dearly missed, but we know in our hearts he will always be here in spirit.
Calling hours will be held from 5-7pm, Tuesday, March 28th at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. A funeral service, officiated by Ben's niece, the Reverend Rosemary Mitchell, will be held at 3pm, prior to calling hours, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to either the Lansing Community Library, 27 Auburn Rd., or the Lansing Recreational Programs, 29 Auburn Rd., both in Lansing, NY 14882.
