On May 1, 2017, Tatyana Duval, 67, of Ithaca, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her own home and on her own terms.

Tatyana was a special person; a beautiful, passionate, and unique woman with an extremely talented mind. She loved life and all things beautiful including flowers, plants, art, and animals.

Tatyana was a renowned conservator of prints and drawings on paper and an expert on inks and the composition of paper. She was trained at the prestigious Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and worked at museums in the former USSR and throughout the United States. She pioneered new conservation techniques and was keenly interested in advancing non-toxic conservation methods. Tatyana worked on many famous artists' works, published numerous articles, trained many students, and received national awards for conservation of our Nation's art treasures. Tatyana was fiercely devoted to all she loved and was an especially adoring and affectionate Grandmother.

Tatyana is survived by her beloved life partner and caregiver, John LaVine; his daughter Jessie (John) Righter; grandchildren, Cameryn and Alex Righter; her good friends, Germaine, Diane, Pat, Cornelia, and Anna.

In keeping with Tatyana's wishes, no public services will be scheduled.
