Evelyn M. Smith, 81, of Locke, NY, passed away early Sunday morning July 29, 2007 at the Groton Nursing Facility.  She is survived by her husband of 59 loving years, John Smith; her four daughters and sons-on-law, Elaine and James Larison, Philomath, OR, Patricia and Fred Howe, N. Syracuse, NY, Teresa and Michael Marcum, Eden, UT, Alexis and Shane Eason, Calexton, GA; her son, James Smith, Trumansburg, NY; her nine grandchildren and spouses, John and Ellie Larison, Ted Larison, Aaron and Susanne Howe, Monica and Todd Canterino, Lauren and Scott Cohen, Jessica Marcum, Alex Marcum, Zach Marcum, Tim Davis; her two great granddaughters, Ava and Carmen Canterino; and expecting great grandbaby Larison.  

Evelyn is also survived by her sister, Helen Matejka; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Joan Argetsinger, Danny and Carole Argetsinger; several nieces, nephews, and their families; and many friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, Phillip and Pauline (Niemi) Argetsinger; and her brother-in-law, Ira Matejka.

Evelyn was born in Van Etten, NY on March 4, 1926.  She graduated from VanEtten High School, attended beautician school, and later worked in an ammunition plant during WWII.  She and her husband John, after falling in love on their first date, were later married in All Saints Church in 1948. Evelyn always enjoyed camping with her family, working on the farm with her husband, and many other family oriented outdoor activities.  She was an exceptional cook and baker, whose door was always open to others to share her creations, and whose heart was always open with generosity.   Evelyn was the best wife, mother, and homemaker a family could wish for.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Church, 347 Ridge Rd., Lansing, NY on Wednesday August 1, 2007, at 10:00am, from Lansing Funeral Home, at 9:30am.  Burial will follow the services at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery, King Ferry, NY.  Family and friends are invited to call at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY, on Tuesday July 31, 2007, from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.  Those wishing are asked to direct memorial contributions to the Alzheimer
