Born in Hunts Corners, NY on December 6, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William and Zola (Root) Shattuck. Laverna spent many years as a nurse's aide at Tompkins County Hospital, retiring in 1976. She was a member of Senior Citizens, a charter member of the Lansingville Ladies Auxillary, and a lifetime member of the NYS Grange. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida and her summers in Lansing.

In addition to her parents, Laverna was preceded in death by two husbands, John K. Shevalier and Ralph Whittier; a sister, Marie Robinson; brothers, Delbert, Harry, William and Ray Shattuck; a grandson, Thomas Haycook; and two stepsons, Michael and Stephen Whittier.
She is survived by two sons, Clarence John (Hazel) Shevalier of Cincinnatus, Joseph (Kimberly) Shevalier of King Ferry; three daughters, Rose ( Clarence) Haycook of Lansing, Grace Hallock of Marathon and Audrey (Robert) Maine of Lansing; step-daughters, Ellen Jackson of Freeville, Hazel Tuhalka of Spencer; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Laverna may direct contributions to Hospicare of Tompkins County, 172 East King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
Family will be present to receive friends from 6 - 8 pm on Friday, August 28 at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. Graveside prayers, officiated by Rev. Jason Berga, will be at 11 am, Saturday, August 29 at Willow Glen Cemetery, Rt. 13 Dryden, NY.
