ITHACA - Carol Butler, age 53, of Ithaca, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 at her home in Cayuga Heights.

She was born in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire on June 16th, 1956. She graduated from Canaan Memorial High School, Class of 1974. Carol received her Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah in 1980 with a focus in Dance Education.

 

On February 8, 1980 she married John Butler. She devoted much of her life to her family as a loving mother and wife. She also spent much of her life immersed in the study of human anatomy and physiology. Carol was a private Pilates instructor and owned her own business, CoreBalance of Ithaca. Carol was certified as a Reiki Master and had a natural gift for healing. She also studied the healing arts of aromatherapy, massage, and active isolated stretching. She used her gifts to help friends and family members with all manners of ailment; from bodily strains to emotional challenges.

 

She was also a gifted dancer. She studied ballet at Point Park College in Pittsburg, PA prior to attending BYU. Carol also studied modern dance and Indian classical dance. She took up competitive ice dancing and won several regional awards when she was in her forties. 
Carol was a very spiritual woman and embraced a unity of all basic truths of many faiths including Roman Catholic, Latter Day Saints, Native American, and Eastern thought.
Carol had a vibrant way of living and while in her fifties, was often mistaken for a woman in her twenties. She was a well respected and giving member of her community. She will be dearly missed by all those whom she touched.

 

She is survived by her husband, John Butler of Ithaca; her children, Hans (Rebekah Scott) Butler, Ian Butler, Emily Butler, and Joseph Butler; a granddaughter, Beatrice Louise Collins; her mother, Yvette Jalbert; her brothers, Michael Jalbert (Sandy), Dr. Ronald (Nancy) Jalbert, Bernard (Carol Jones) Jalbert; her sisters, Rejeanne Jalbert and Captain Monique Petrofsky (US Public Health Services). She is also survived by many extended family members and close friends.

 

Calling hours will be on Monday, September 28th, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Herson Funeral Home located at the Family Service Center at 110 South Geneva Street, in Ithaca. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday September 29th, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, 114 Burleigh Drive, Ithaca. Memorials may be made in Carol's honor to the Carol Butler Charitable Gift Fund, Tompkins Investment Services, PO Box 6639, Ithaca, New York, 14851-6639.
