Calvin R. Warren passed away peacefully on Sunday the 12th of May 2013, at his home.

Cal was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 19, 1945 to Lester and Helen Warren. He attended three years at Rhinebeck High School and completed his senior year at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY. He came to Ithaca in 1963 with the intention to pursue a degree in Veterinary Science at Cornell University and soon fell in love with the area. In 1966 he was drafted by the United State Army and served as a forward observer in Vietnam with the rank of Sergeant in the 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Division. Cal was honorably discharged and soon returned to the area he loved.

The desire to own his own business was soon realized when he opened Warren Home Furnishings. He moved on to the real estate business in the early ‘80s and was a founding partner of the ReMax branch here in Ithaca. In the late 90's he began Straight Line Realty, which he was determined to maintain even in the midst of his recent illness. Throughout his years in Ithaca, Cal devoted time and energy to numerous community projects. His desire to make a positive impact in providing opportunities for children was seen with his involvement in the development of Lansing's Little League Baseball program, the Rink, and the Lansing Community Library.

Cal was a great father and he never missed a game. He was a warm, friendly person with a great sense of humor and he touched the lives of many. He had a strong moral compass. He enjoyed music and spending time outdoors whether he was hiking a trail, sailing Cayuga Lake on his Pearson 26' or gardening and planting trees.

Cal's spirit lives on. He is survived by his long-time girlfriend Susan Ritter, his sister, Jean Jacoby (Paul) in Fairport, NY; son Matthew Warren (Diane Bergeron) and their children Malachi and Joshua in Cleveland, OH; son Bradley Warren (Marissa) and their children Parker and Myles in Goshen, NY; and his daughter Lindsay Jones (Christopher) in Baltimore, MD; and eight nieces and nephews. He is also survived by ‘Rince', a black lab rescue dog that was always by his side.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY, the Lansing Community Library, 27 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY 14882 or the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, 612 W. State St., Ithaca, NY 14850.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. Interment at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 6632 Rt. 96A, Romulus, NY, will be at 12:00pm, Friday, May 17, 2013.
