I couldn't agree more with your Design the Signs editorial. Although people don't like regulation, what happens when there is none is a sort of regulation by fiat; businesses and individuals act on their own initiative to serve their own needs and not the needs of the community.
By the time regulation catches up, as in the case of the Pyramid Mall, it's too late for the democratic process to work. Regulation, as illustrated by the turnout at the Lansing town board, the other night, can express the democratic will of the people in how they want their hometown to look and function.
