As a water-quality professional, I was struck by the underlying irony of our Republican state senator's touting a state water-quality initiative in the face of her Republican federal colleagues' and her so-called president's declared war on our environment, especially our water environment.Today's New York Times reported on our Candadian neighbors' dismay at the drastic cuts the Trump administration's gutting of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, an international agreement that has been working for decades to reverse the centuries of abuse these shared waters have suffered.
In fact, the Republican's plannned assault on the EPA and all the environmental laws it enforces, including the Clean Water Act, and their backtracking on the historic international climate accord, will leave all of us and our environment poorer and endangered, regardless of the paltry, ineffective 'initiatives' the NY State Senate puts forward.
