What with capital projects and the school budget saga, gaining a superintendent and losing a principal, this has been a traumatic school year for the grownups. It seems like the ones who became involved had more and more homework, and Board of Education members certainly felt a lot of frustration and disappointment in their already thankless (and payless) jobs.
For the kids it was a different story. They spent their time learning and learning how to learn. The end of the year saw many celebrations of their work, including art shows, concerts, science exhibits, social studies projects and another remarkable Varsity season. I made it to two of the three commencements, and enjoyed the celebrations of Lansing kids' achievement.
But with all that, it's time for a break. Summer will pass quickly enough and students will be excited to commence the new school year. But for now it's just nice to be glad this one is over.
