mailmanDemocrats have an important primary on Thursday, September 13. Yes, that's a Thursday!

I strongly support Derek Osborne for Tompkins County Sheriff and Kathy Hochul for re-election as our Lt. Governor.

Most people don't realize the Governor and Lt. Governor do not 'run' or get elected as a ticket. Therefore, I am eager to urge Democrats to support Kathy Hochul for re-election in her own right!

Kathy has been a steadfast voice for upstate issues her entire career. A native of Buffalo, she is the only state-wide elected official who's not from the downstate area. Her opponent is a New York City Councilmember and his election would completely shut us out of the conversation.

Further, Kathy has always been a vigorous supporter of women's reproductive rights and the rights of LGBTQ people to marry. The record shows that the same cannot be said for her opponent, even though he's had an election-year "conversion" on those issues.

Derek understands the County's efforts to reduce recidivism by helping people re-enter the community after incarceration. Following his 20-year law enforcement career, Derek worked for a non-profit reintegration program for federal prison inmates, connecting them with counseling, employment training, and other social service referrals. Having that direct experience, helping people succeed after incarceration, will be a first for a Tompkins County Sheriff.

Derek also knows his way around the county budget from his years serving as our Undersheriff. He truly understands how to balance the department's needs with his responsibility to the taxpayers.

On Thursday, September 13, polls are open from noon to 9:00 p.m.
