Dear Dan,

I enjoyed your editorial on Wit, but in Churchill's repartee with G. B. Shaw, you neglected to include Churchill's classic rejoinder to Shaw's comment, "I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend -- if you have one." Churchill replied, "I regret I cannot attend the first night; will attend the second -- if there is one."

I agree with you that this sort of subtle wit is sorely missing from our current politics. Unfortunately, I don't think our President is capable of such clever wit, and we must continue to suffer his infantile name-calling and inflammatory diatribes. So much for the former dignity of the Office of the President...
