mailmanIn the 1930's and 40's we had quarantines for most of the childhood diseases. The County Health man would come to your house and staple up a colored paper notice of the fact that this house was in quarantine.

I think blue was for chicken pox and I know deep pink was for measles. We had six children in the family and five of the siblings had all the childhood diseases before the last child was born. When the baby came along and got the childhood illnesses, the house was quarantined for all of us and we got time off from school. We really liked that!
