mailmanI'd just like to say that I don't understand the thinking on saying no to BJ's in Lansing. I don't think companies should skate on taxes, but we're talking about getting money from a company that plans to give the authorities money to be there, even if not in the way of an actual tax FOR NOW. So immediately, they all get more money than they have been getting because someone wants to put something on a property that is just taxed as land at the moment. And after a set period of time, agreed to by all involved, they WOULD pay taxes on the structures, plus generate sales tax revenue.

In the meantime, there are about 70 jobs not being created, housing not being offered to seniors, a wildlife refuge of sorts not being developed. And, the comment about folks shopping in Auburn is right. Well, at least for me. When I worked in Ithaca, but lived in Berkshire, I went all the way to Vestal for Sam's Club. Now that I work from home and live just 12 minutes from the would-be BJ's location, I drive all the way to Auburn for BJ's. Even with B & W and MaineSource in Ithaca, they don't offer me the same things I buy at BJ's.

I was delighted when I heard we were getting a BJ's! No more 30-minute trips where (the article was right!) I did eat at a couple of their restaraunts or sometimes stop off at other shops while I was in the area. I was really disappointed seeing a vote that made it look like I'd have to keep taking my money out of county and spend so much time and gas to get what I ultimately want (which is still a monetary savings since I only make the trip once a month or so).

And I'll answer your question: to BJ's! Even if that's To AUBURN BJ's.
