The so called Birthers may now breathe more easily knowing that the 44th President of the United States is indeed a citizen. Donald Trump, a symbol of all that is wrong in corporate America and a possible candidate for the Republican Party can concentrate his vast wealth on a new topic of lunacy to investigate knowing that his attempts to ferret out the truth have succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.
Of course, the release of President Obama's birth certificate will not stop any fringe group from their relentless attack upon the person of the President. Many groups claiming to seek only the truth will continue to trump up new and outrageous claims against the President and use any means to find evidence that will support their baseless accusations.
Since his election in November 2008, some have labeled President Obama a socialist and a communist bent on destroying the free market system and forcing millions of Americans into a state owned and operated economy. Meanwhile Wall Street, General Motors, Chrysler, and the Banking Industry have been staunch allies of the Administrations bailouts and loans.
Others have accused the President of being a Muslim sympathizer and Islamic terrorist with a secret plan to convert all Americans to Islam. Like his predecessor, he has reached out to the Muslim community at home and abroad in ways reminiscent of past leaders during times of crisis and uncertainty.
A few right wing radio talk show hosts continue to broadcast warnings to their listeners that Obama is going to take away all the guns in America and arrest those who wish to keep their firearms. It is now the Second Amendment that is under attack.
As with the accusations of the Birthers, these additional charges are simply bogus. They should not receive any press coverage, but bad news sells. Outrageous news appears to sell better. When our leaders are forced to address rumors and baseless accusations, valuable resources are wasted. Our nation faces too many real problems and needs to focus its energy and resources on those issues that will strengthen the economy and return millions of unemployed back into the workforce.
Donald, Rush, Sean, Glen and the other conspiracy theorists should devote to their time and energies to uncovering the holy grail of all conspiracies-President John F. Kennedy's love letters to Marilyn Monroe. Now that would be news. And that is to the point.
