mailmanDear Residents:

I have lived in the Town of Lansing since 1986. I enjoy living in Lansing as we have great schools and friendly neighbors. When we moved here in 1986, there was a Shurfine grocery store directly across from Rogues Harbor. The store was convenient and well frequented by the Lansing residents. A few years later, the store was in need of repair but the decision was made to close the store as the costs of rebuilding a septic system were prohibitive. The building is still vacant and an eyesore 25 years later.

It makes sense to have controlled growth in this town as this presents new products, job opportunities and affordable housing. I have noticed minimal growth during my 25 years in Lansing as the startup costs must be excessively high. A major contributing factor to these high costs includes putting in and maintaining a septic system. It also makes sense to have some growth in our town because when old businesses fail we diminish our tax base which hurts everyone’s wallet.

As a long time Lansing resident, I would like to see Lansing invest and help protect its tax base by planning for new businesses as well as improving existing and adding new residences. I believe that these ideas will become reality if the Town of Lansing takes on the challenge of building a municipal wastewater treatment system. The sewer committee members have been working for months to put together optimal plans that squeeze the tax dollar to best serve the Lansing community. The support of my community is needed for this project to move forward. I fully support the construction of the Lansing Municipal Wastewater Treatment System.

Sincerely,

Mark Booth
