mailmanTo All Lansing Residents:

The August 30th editorial -- 'A Drastically Changed Lansing' by Lansing Star Editor Dan Veaner -- should be required reading for all residents in our beloved town, from 6th Grade through those in their 90s.

I considered writing something to add to what Dan had in his editorial, but found myself going back to his honest, true and heartfelt words, unable to add anything to make them more meaningful. He hit the nail on the head once again, as he has many times in the past, regarding the status of our town.

A lifelong resident, graduate of Lansing High School in 1960, and a former Town Board member who served for 8 years, I've been surprised on more than one occasion by the inability of many long-time residents to concern themselves about the future of Lansing.  I've heard too often the comment, 'let's keep it like it is', from folks who have lived here forever. Come on people, why do you think our children leave once they graduate?? There is nothing to keep them home.

As for those of you who don't and won't look into the future of our community, shame on you. Newer residents (even from the past 25 years & more recent) moved here with hopes and dreams of seeing us prosper and grow. It'll never happen if attitudes do not change, and change soon.

The failure of the sewer project (again) leads me to believe it'll be a very long time (or if ever) before it surfaces again, and that could be a catastrophe. As for the power plant... we'd all better hope and pray it remains viable.

Look around, folks, and seriously think about what you see for our future, and if you're completely satisfied with the direction we are going??  For some of us, it's time to get out of the 50's, 60's, and 70's, and give our town, the best town in the county, a chance to grow and prosper.

Respectfully,

Martin A. "Marty" Christopher
