Four minutes into the game, McCartney one-touched a bouncing ball, driving it low into the left side of the goal from 20 yards out. The score held at 1-0 until the final minute of the first half. Michelle Schafer’s well-struck corner kick found its way through a crowd and into the net for Lansing’s second goal.
Trumansburg’s best scoring chance came late in the first half when the Trumansburg midfield launched a 30-yard pass to a breaking Hannah Morpurgo. Morpurgo’s well-timed run looked like a sure breakaway, but Lansing keeper Sarah Gisler anticipated the pass, and made a strong tackle at the 30-yard line to break up the play.
In the second half, McCartney spotted freshman Kassie Riemer unmarked at the top of the 18-yard box. Riemer controlled McCartney’s pass, turned and fired a left-footed blast for Lansing’s 3rd goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Maddy Mikula had 12 saves for Trumansburg. The Lansing defense did not allow any shots on goal.
Lansing improves to 9-3 for the year.
