100 Freestyle
In one of the more exciting races of the day where the top 3 finishers were separated by less then ½ a second; Captain Adele Ferris was called upon to fill a gap in this event due to an injury to another teammate. She put in gutsy 3rd place/16pts finish with a time of 56.41, just missing 2nd by 1/100th of second to Dryden Senior Erin Daley’s 56.40 and they were just behind Waverly Senior Daylen Smith who went 55.95. Also adding points for Lansing in this event was Junior Paige Kieper who finished 5th and scoring 14 points.
500 Freestyle
Lansing swimmers combined for 49 points in this event. They were led by Sophomore Grace Ferris, who took 1st place and 20 with a season best winning time of 5:36.05. Other LadyCats scoring were Freshman Jackie Brown with a solid 4th/15 point effort; Lizzy Drake 7th/12pts and Sophomore Lexi Ryan 15th/2pts.
200 Freestyle Relay
The 200 Free Relay was another very exciting race on the day; the LadyCat team of Kieper, Brown, G. Ferris, and Dennis put up a strong challenge in this event with a time of 1:48.01. They were less than a second behind 1st place Waverly who went a 1:47.33 and just a ½ second faster than 3rd place Southern Cayuga. The result was 34 more points for Lansing.
100 Backstroke
The 100 Back is typically a very competitive event and this year’s final proved to be a nail biter. Watkins Senior Victoria Wixson had to pull out her best performance of the year to hold off strong challenges from Lansing’s own Paige Kieper and Rory Allen. Wixson’s 1:03.21 was just good enough to out touch a surging Kieper who took a surprise 2nd place/17pts with a personal best time of 1:03.95; Allen was 3rd/16pts. Marin Allen(Fr) placed 6th/13pts and Lexi Ryan(So) place 13th/4pts as well.
100 Breaststroke
This event proved to be the closest finish of the day and showcased a great race between Lansing’s Grace Ferris and Freshman Claire Rejman of Southern Cayuga. Rejman and Ferris had tied each other earlier in the season during a dual meet, a rare event indeed, and both were eager for the opportunity to swim against each other again. The 2 left the rest of the field behind in a start to finish battle and in the end Ferris prevailed with a 1st place/20 pts career best 1:10.58 to Rejman’s 1:10.97; also a career best. Together they outpaced the field by 4 seconds. Seniors Carlyn Matheny and Haley Wigsten scored in 14th/3pts and 15th/2pts.
400 Freestyle Relay
Lansing had a strong 35 point lead heading into the final event of the day, but still needed a solid performance to ensure the victory. The team of Paige Kieper, Rory Allen, Caroline Dennis and Adele Ferris delivered. The LadyCat relay offered up a 1st place finish and 40 more points to the total with a winning time of 3:54.26.
