baseball lakerslogoIt was a team effort but, Zack Walker was on center stage as he helped the Tompkins County Lakers 18U baseball team to a 13-1 victory over Candor on Wednesday at the Candor Town Field.

With a strong game at the plate and on the rubber, he racked up six RBI on three hits, singled in the third and fourth innings and had a four RBI, grand slam home run in the fifth inning.

Six runs in the opening three innings allowed The Lakers to easily put away Candor.  An RBI single by Pat Judd, an RBI single by Zack Ives, and an RBI single by Glen Addicott in the first inning and a two-run error and an error during the second inning fueled The Lakers offense early.  They never looked back.

Addicott picked up the win for the TC Lakers. He allowed one unearned run over four innings. He struck out three, walked four and surrendered two hits.  A very strong outing for the rookie pitcher.  Addicott also helped his cause with three solid hits. Jared Strait took the mound for the fifth and six innings, striking out four, allowing no walks and no runs.  He set up the stage for Walker to close. Walker brought the heat against Candor during his outing.  He held Candor hitless over one inning, allowed no runs, walked none and struck out three.

Eleven hits, eleven walks and 24 quality at bats caused Candor to throw over 180 pitches verses the Lakers only needing 116 pitches over seven innings.  The Lakers seem to be melding together well.  With a record of 4 wins and 3 losses they are starting to come alive.
