Gallagher earned her spot at this year's state championships with a winning vault of 12' at the state qualifier meet held in Vestal last Thursday, soaring a foot and a half higher than the runner-up, Amelia Legg of Delhi. With this performance, Gallagher is a repeat champion in the event at the outdoor state qualifier, having won it last year as well. Gallagher also broke her own outdoor school record (previously set at 11'9"). She is ranked fourth overall and first among division two female pole vaulters as she enters this weekend's competition.
Dhimitri will be competing in the 400M hurdles at the state championships, earning her berth with a second place finish and a time of 1:06.94 at the state qualifier meet behind Dryden senior Abbey Yatsko. Both Yatsko and Dhimitri achieved the state and federation automatic qualifying standard in the event, allowing section 4 to send these two athletes as representatives at the state championships. Dhimitri currently is ranked tenth among division two athletes in the event. In addition to achieving entry to the state championship meet, she also secured a sixth place podium finish in the 100M hurdles at the state qualifier meet, competed in the triple jump, and anchored Lansing's 1600M relay.
While Gallagher and Dhimitri are the only two bobcats continuing on to the state championships this weekend, Lansing brought fourteen competitors to the state qualifier meet. Sophomore Meghan Matheny entered the meet highly ranked in the pole vault along with her teammate Gallagher and took third place overall. In the girls 1600M relay, Lansing, Elmira, and Newark Valley had a photo finish for the final spot on the podium, with just 5 hundredths of a second separating sixth place from eighth place and Lansing securing sixth position.
Lansing's relay members Michelle Schafer, Sam Mauser, Mikaela Garcia and Dhimitri ran to a season best time as they put away the baton for the last time this spring season. Sophomore Garcia also took sixth place in the triple jump with a personal record. Also standing on the awards stand was freshman Destiny Little who earned sixth place in the high jump. Sophomore Miya Kuramoto raced in both the 100M and 200M sprints, and sophomore Leigh Miller competed in the 3000M run.
On the boys team, sophomore Xavier Gell vaulted to sixth place in the pole vault. Also jumping for Lansing was sophomore Joey Miller-LaBar in the pole vault as well as high jump where he was joined by classmate Michael Lapar. Sophomore Alex Powers threw shot put and senior Jacob Lange raced in the 1600M run.
