During the week the boys became a team and improved in all aspects of the game. On Thursday the boys lost to Western 5-1 The game was much closer than the score as the score was tied by Sidney's Mike Guerriere with 28 minutes left in the game. Three minutes later Central had a chance to go up 2-1 but the Western keeper came through. Western scored with under 20 to go up 2-1 and again Central had a golden opportunity to tie the game but the Keeper for Western was again in the way- western went on to score 3 more in the final 10 minutes.
Friday - The Central boys played their best game of the week vs. New York City only to see them get bad luck and lose in penalty kicks 4-2. The game was tied at the end of regulation 1-1. Central struck first just 4 minutes into the game as Mike Guerriere scored on a brake-away. Central coninued to press and looked as if they would have a great
chance to go up 2-0 as Guerriere was taken down in the box. Not only was there no call but Guerriere was lost for the rest of the tournament as he broke his wrist. NYC scored in the second half and again Central had great chances to win the game - this knocked the team out of the gold medal match.
Saturday in a 'must win to play on Sunday game for the bronze' Central came through with a 2-1 win over Hudson Valley. HV struck first and Central's Pat Thopmson tied the game at 1 with under two minutes left in the first half. With 11 minutes to play Central's Mitch Weaver took a pass from Alessio Vitale to go up 2-1. That score would hold as Central went on to win and now had to face Western again in the Bronze medal.
Sunday- Central struck first on a goal by Ryan Evans and the goal held through the first half but Western put it on in the second half and won 5-1. The boys should be proud of their efforts and as their coach I am extremely proud of them.
