The Tompkins County Soccer Association (TCSA) kicks off its season this Saturday (9/10) with two home games on the Lansing Town Fields. The Lansing Lions will go up against the Marathon Thunder at 3:30pm, and the Lansing Blaze will challenge the Ithaca Galaxy at 5:00pm.
14 local soccer clubs participate in TCSA games, including Candor, Dryden, Homer, Groton, Ithaca, Owego, Moravia, Schuyler, Elmira, Southern Cayuga, Spencer-Van Etten, Taughannock, Vestal and Lansing. The Lansing Soccer Club was established in 2001, and is a member of the Tompkins County Soccer Association, the Broome County Soccer Association and the New York State West Youth Soccer Association. School Board member Tom Keane is the President of the Lansing club.
There is a Fall and Winter league. The former plays on the towns' ball fields, while the Winter league plays indoors at the FIELD on Rt. 34 from November 4 through January 29, and a second sessions from February 3 through April 9. These teams play competitive soccer, as distinguished from recreational soccer that is a part of the Recreation Department's offerings.
Lansing resident Mike Cheatham is the President of the TCSA and the director of the Fall and Winter leagues. He has been active in Lansing soccer for years, and has headed the Recreation Department's soccer program.
Lansing has five travel soccer teams. The U12 (12th grade and under) Girls team, the Lansing Lightning, is coached by Craig Trowbridge. Tom McGiff coaches the Lansing Blaze, a boys U12 team. Beth Kutler coaches the Lansing Galaxy, the boys U10 team, and Lamar Peters is the coach for the second U12 Boys team, the Lansing Lions, as well as the Lansing Lakers boys U10 team.
The Fall League will play a total of 110 games through October 30.
