13 Years in a Row Sectional Champions

Lansing's All-American senior swimmer, Jake Sangren, clocked a blistering new Section IV record time of 51.39 in the 100 backstroke. Jake improved his own previous sectional record time of 51.80 which he set earlier this year. His new time is also a new IAC league record, Lansing school record, and OFA pool record. According to Head Coach Brian Vaughan, "Jake had a good swim; we expect him to do really well at the state meet (2/29-3/1/08)." Jake finished first in the 200 individual medley with a readout of 1:59.48. He was the backstroke leg of the winning (class C) 200 freestyle relay team, and he was part of the winning (class C) 400 freestyle relay team.
Lansing's Dan Ravas was a first place finisher in two individual events. Dan cruised to victory in the 50 freestyle (23.04) and also in the 100 butterfly (55.58). Dan was the butterfly leg of the gold medal (class C) 200 medley relay team, and he was part of the winning (class C) 200 freestyle relay team. Coach Vaughan stated, "Dan Ravas has proven himself to be a big meet swimmer."
In the 500 freestyle event, Lansing's junior co-captain, Ari Darlow, eclipsed his previous personal-best time (5:28.06 at IAC Champs) with a time of 5:26.41. As a Lansing timer stated, "It was very impressive that the Lansing coach, Brian Vaughan, and some of Ari's teammates strode up and down beside his lane encouraging him throughout his 20 laps of the race. Aaron Eddy shouted Ari's split times to him which proved to be extremely helpful." Ari received a gold medal in this event for Lansing. Ari was also the freestyle leg of the winning (class C) 200 medley relay team and he was part of the winning (class C) 400 freestyle relay team.
Another junior swimmer, David Bandler, stood on top of the podium for a gold medal in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.43) for Lansing. David was the breaststroke leg of the winning (class C) 200 medley relay, and he was part of the winning (class C) 200 freestyle relay. Coach Vaughan said, "David has a very upbeat attitude as he prepares for the state meet."
Lansing sophomore swimmer, Casey Hagin, received a gold medal for his performance in the 200 freestyle event. Casey's readout of 1:57.30 was a personal-best time. Casey was part of the winning (class C) 200 freestyle relay team, and he was part of the winning (class C) 400 freestyle relay team for Lansing. Coach Vaughan said, "Casey has a positive attitude as he trains hard for the state meet."

Assistant Coach Dewey added that Max Mackenzie and Taylor Germain had great swims in the breaststroke. In this sectional swim meet, the team members contributed valuable points to this win. The following are those place finishes, the swimmer's name, the seed time, recorded time, and points earned.
