Ithaca 16U Shooting Stars Finish Second in State
Ithaca 14Us Represent Central Section


During the March 6-9 weekend, the Ithaca 14U and 16U Shooting Stars competed in the New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA) Tier 2 Girls Championships in Glens Falls and Ogdensburg respectively.

Second Place in New York State

The 14Us participated as the one representative of Central Section after winning that title two weeks ago.  When they faced the Hamburg Hawks, Angela Everhart stopped 16 shots in a 2-1 loss.  Meredith Kirk scored the lone goal assisted by Catherine Watkins. They were also defeated by the North Country Ice Storm, 3-1. Carrie Wilder scored unassisted while Everhart made 36 saves. In a game that was called in the third period when the winter storm caused a power outage, Ithaca fell to the Saranac Lake Red Storm, 5-1. Krystalyn Yonkin scored unassisted. The team is coached by Chris Grippin with John Golay and David Herrick.

The 16U Shooting Stars finished in second place in New York 16U Tier 2 going 3-1-1 in a six team round robin format before falling to the Long Island Waves 0-1 in the championship game. The team is coached by Tony Eisenhut with Karen and Dave Cole.

Their three wins included one shutout game by each goalie: Sarah Eisenhut in the 2-0 victory over the Suffolk PAL team and Annabelle Jones in a 1-0 victory over the Wheatfield Blades. Against Suffok, Janesa Cornish scored from Katie Long, as did Lauren Cole from Emily Eisenhut and Emma Hassen.  Long scored the lone goal over Wheatfield assisted by Melissa Ash. Jones stopped 20 shots in the 4-1 victory over the West Seneca Wings. Cornish scored two in this contest assisted by Cole. Sarah Eisenhut skating as a forward scored from Kathryn Luschwitz, and Erin Grainger scored unassisted.
 
Ithaca tied its Central Section rival, Camillus Cougars, 2-2. Their goalie had to stop 29 Ithaca shots while Sarah Eisenhut made 22 saves in net. Skating as a defender Jones scored assisted by Cole. Luschwitz scored from Colleen Dillon.

In the preliminary round, Ithaca fell to the undefeated Long Island Waves, 4-1 including an empty net goal. Luschwitz scored assisted by Kaitlyn Ryan and Gabe Klick. Sarah Eisenhut stopped 15 shots in a game that featured 21 saves by the Waves goalie to stop Ithaca. When the teams met again in the championship game, Eisenhut made 23 saves in the 0-1 game which featured 20 Ithaca shots.
