ImageThe Lansing Legions lost in the semi-finals to Corning at Damaschke Field (Oneonta Tigers Minor League Stadium).  This was the 12th Annual Oneonta Wood Bat Classic.  We lost in the final four 9-4 to Corning.  T.J. French picked up the loss.  5 innings pitched 6 hits 6 strike outs 8 walks 8 runs only four earned we committed 4 errors and all but 1 were costly.  T.J. had great focus but struggled to throw first pitch strikes.  Corning is really talented and Lansing would have had to play as well as we did Friday and Saturday to hang with them and we did not play well.  Brian Milliman was 2-2 with a double 2 runs 1 rbi and 1 sb.  Teagan Barresi was 2-4 with a double and an rbi.

On Friday Night the team beat Vestal (there H.S. team was unreal this year)8-2 at S.U.N.Y. Oneonta.  We scored 2 in the first and 2 in the second.  Lansing set the tone right at the start when our catcher T.J. Cretney hit the first pitch of the game (wood bats) into right center for a double and two batters latter Barresi hit his own double to score Cretney and Barresi later scored on a wild pitch.  Justin Payne (going to Herkimer C.C.) threw 6 struck out 10 walked 3 and scattered only 3 hits.  Justin Hulbert closed it out in the 7th.  Payne only allowed 1 earned run.  Payne also had an rbi double to help himself.

Saturday morning the Lansing team defeated Milford, NH 7-3 behind great pitching by Teagan Barresi and Josh Rodgers.  Barresi went 5 and a third scattering 6 hits and allowing 2 earned runs.  Rodgers earned the save with 1 and 2/3 hitless relief.  Rodgers started in left field and as well has he pitched his biggest moment of the day was a second inning suicide squeeze bunt that he did an amazing job to get down to give us the lead 2-1 and we never trailed again.  Will Opperman was 2-4 with an rbi double.  Nate Martin was 2-3 with a double and 2 rbi.

The second huge offensive play came in the bottom of the 6th with the score tied at 3.  Nolan Milliman (9 hitter) laced a two run, two out single up the middle to put us up 5-3 then the two out rally continued as T.J. Cretney singled and then Opperman hit his double to score Cretney on a very well executed hit and run.
