As is typical in the beginning of any season, the scrimmage provides the team the opportunity to learn where their strengths lie and what areas to fine-tune. The day was overcast, the atmosphere ready for action and it was a unique opportunity for all the teams and their supporters to share together their enthusiasm and love of the game and show their team support.
The 2010 Senior Small Fry team players are Alec, Braydon, Colter, Dominic, Eric, Jared, Jerry, Jesse, Jonathan, Kyle, Logan, Michael, Mickey, Neal, Nick, Owen, Peter, Sam, Tyler, Zach D., Zach P., and Zach W. – most of whom played in the scrimmage this past weekend.
The offense, lead by the quarterback (Eric) ran 71 plays and was very well organized, so they were able to obtain 15 team touchdowns in less than 45 minutes of game play. While the touchdowns were made by five different ball carriers, Jared (8), Zach D (3), Zach W (2 offensive touchdowns and 1 interception resulting in a defensive touchdown), Eric (1) and Jerry (1) –it was also the hard work of the rest of the team that helped make this possible.
The offensive line which is made up of Owen, Logan, Jonathan, Zach P., Colter, Braydon, Nick, Kyle, Dominic and Sam and lead blockers gave enough time for good passes to be made the majority of the time and blocked well to create holes for the ball carriers to run through. The running backs cut and adjusted through the holes well and the tight ends (Peter and Zach W.) did a great job, even against bigger opponents.
On defense, the opponents ran 48 plays where six touchdowns were made, four of the six fumbles were recovered by Lansing and one defensive touchdown was made due to an interception. The line backers (Jared, Zach D., Tyler, Peter, Jerry, and Eric) made a lot of tackles, several of which were swarm tackles (one opponent with 4+ Lansing players) and with additional pressure from the defensive line (Dominic, Braydon, Alec, Jonathan, Nick, Kyle, Colter, Zach P., and Sam) they will continue to get even stronger. The corner backs and safety’s (Zach W., Tyler, Jerry, Mickey, and Peter) showed a lot of skill in their pass coverage and the defensive ends (Logan and Owen) had good containment.
Offense or defense, all the players pulled together and demonstrated skills, encouragement of one another, and good sportsmanship. It’s football time! They are the Bobcats and they are a team. Their next games are on Saturday, September 18th at 7pm at the Trumansburg High School then on Saturday, September 25th at 3pm at the Lansing High School .
