hocky2_120With the 2011-2012 season, the Ithaca Youth Hockey Association split up their two 12U (PeeWees) teams among Ithaca and non-Ithaca residents.  Showing the strength of youth hockey in Lansing, the PeeWee Two team was centered on nine Lansing residents with the 2nd largest contingent comprising of three skaters from Dryden.

This last weekend’s games involved the longest road trip of the season, where the PeeWee Two team made a trip to the North Country to take on the Thousand Island Pirates in the town of Clayton. Tiffany Lobdell started off the scoring with a wrist shot finding the net three minutes into the game.  Goalie Ryan Besemer held off the Pirates up until 1:30 left in the first period, when the Pirates tied the score with a roller between the pads.

Quickly in the second period, PeeWee Two took the lead with a slap shot from Damian Valent getting past the Pirates net minder.  Less than one minute later Nic Whittaker fed a one-timer to Damian Valent who slid the puck past the Pirates goal tender to make the score 3-1.   An unassisted wrap-around goal by Jack Babuka with 5 minutes left to play improved  the score 4-1.

The Pirates looked to start a comeback when two Peewee Two players were sent to the penalty box.  However the defensive trio of Jack Babuka, Nic Whittaker, and Colin McClure held the Pirates scoreless for nearly two minutes of five on three play.  Late in the third period, the Pirates lit the lamp to bring the score to 4-2, but that was all the Pirates could muster as a comeback.   Goalie Ryan Besemer improved his record to 5-0 over the season after stopping 20 shots by the Pirates.

The Peewee Two roster includes Jack Babuka, Ryan Besemer, Ryan Bishop, Ryan Franzese, Matthew Kirkwood, Teo Levitan-Armstrong, Tiffany Lobdell, Colin McClure, Sean O’Neil,  Blake Sears, CJ Smiley, Damian Valent, Nic Whittaker, Nick Yowan, and Josh Zajac.

The PeeWee Two team record has improved to 6-1 over the season outscoring their opponents 37-16. The next game will be played on December 11th starting at 11:45 against Salmon River at The Rink.
