posticon Lansing Girls Track Division III League Champions

ImageThis week the Lansing Girls Track and Field team was named IAC Division III League Champions, and took second place at the IAC Championship Meet. Lansing recorded 12 top six finishes. Junior Ryann Cretney was named meet MVP for track events and led the way for the Bobcats, setting a school record of 7:21.45 and taking second place in the 2000m Steeplechase, a Dryden High School facility record of 2:20.17 and first place finish in the 800m, a school record and first place finish of 4:46. 2 in the 1500m, and anchored the winning 4x800mR team with a season best time of 10:03.8.

The 4x800mR team was rounded out by junior Christine Fuchs, senior Natalie Usack, and freshman Katy Bland. Freshman Chloe Ryan came up big in the 100m and 200m dashes with third and fourth place finishes, respectively. Ryan also ran the lead leg of the sixth place finishing 4x100mR team, consisting of seniors Preeti Panda, Veronica Palladino, and freshman Emily Eisenhut, which ended with a season best time of 54.2 seconds. Senior Kendal Dean found her mark, taking second place in high jump with 4’10” and long jumped 15’2” into 6th place.

posticon Lansing Tennis Finishes Second at IAC

Lansing Varsity Tennis team finished second out of 11 schools at the IAC tournament.  Lansing had 41 points by advancing many players to the final round. Devin Grant-Keane took 3rd at #1 singles position. Adam Hardie placed second at #2 singles. Sadie Purnell was 4th and had to withdraw due to an ankle sprain. Brian Streb finished second at #4 singles.

The first doubles team of Walker Diebolt and Tom Zarate finished in third place. Rachel Strohman and Sander Moolin were second as were Tyler Engels and Nathan Allen at the third doubles position.  Marianne Choi won the girls singles and Dan Zarate was runner-up for boys singles in the novice tourney. I am so proud of these athletes' effort. This was one of the best results for Lansing in the past 7 years. Now we try to raise our game to the next level at sectionals.

posticon Girls Track Team Makes Season Bests at Invitationals

On Friday the 11th, a squad of 14 Lansing girls traveled to Mane-Endwell for the Rotary Invitational. This event featured 25 teams from the central New York region. Top performances were turned in as freshman Chloe Ryan took second in the 100m dash with a season best performance of 12.9 seconds. Junior Ryann Cretney competed in the 1500m run with a third place finish and a season best performance of 4:54.7. Cretney turned in a season best in the 800m run as well with a fifth place finish and a time of 2:25.01.

Junior Christine Fuchs made her return to the track with a season best performance in the 800m run with a time of 2:32.5. The 4x800m relay team of Christine Fuchs, Katy Bland, Ryann Cretney, senior Tiffany Lind took fourth in a time of 10:24.5; senior Rachel Bland had a season best performance of 4’4” in the high jump. Senior Kendal Dean also competed in the high jump with a mark of 4’6”; senior Natalie Usack and freshman Katy Bland both ran provisional marks for the state qualifier meet in the 400mH with times of 1:14.8 and 1:13.3, respectively.

posticon Lansing Baseball Winning Week

The varsity baseball has had a successful week thus far. On Monday in Lansing they defeated Union Springs 18-0. Brent Stull tossed a no-hitter striking out eleven. At the plate, Vinvcent Redmond, Matthew Ford, Teagen Barresi and Trevor Wolf all had 3 hits.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Marathon and behind the strong pitching of Kyle Sweazey and T. J. French they came out on top 7-4. Simeon Parks and Teagen Barresi homered for the Bobcats.

posticon Two Wins for Lansing Boys Track Team

The Lansing boy's defeated Moravia 120-16 and Southern Cayuga 103-31 to win the Division title at Lansing's home track. The boy's did very well today, and are looking good going into this last weekend of invitationals before the IAC championship meet next week at Dryden.

Meet Winners were:

3200 m Relay

posticon Girls Track Team Makes Strong Showing

The Lansing Girls Track and Field team had some very strong performances at last Fridays Ithaca Relays at Ithaca High School. Season best performances were turned in by the 4x400mR team of Tiffany Lind, Colleen Trowbridge, Natalie Usack, and Anna Mapes, earning them a 4th place finish with a time of 4:12.7; and the 4x800mR team of Tiffany Lind, Katy Bland, Natalie Usack, and Ryann Cretney earned a 3rd place finish with a time of 10:18.

The 4x200mR team also turned in a season best performance with a time of 1:51.4 that took 5th place. Other top finishes of the day were by the Sprint Medley Relay team consisting of Tiffany Lind, Natalie Usack, Veronica Palladino, and Ryann Cretney with a 6th place finish in a time of 4:31.4; the shuttle hurdle relay team of Preeti Panda, Veronica Palladino, Colleen Trowbridge, and Katy Bland with a 5th place finish in a time of 1:15.4; and the triple jump relay team of Colleen Trowbridge and Rachel Bland for a combined distance of 62’ and ¾”, that earned them 6th place.

posticon Local Boys Triumph in Wrestling

Greggie Lee aged 10, a forth grader and Colter Pinney aged 8 a second grader, both at R.C. Buckley Elementary, competed on April 28th at The Gene Mills Eastern Nationals Wrestling Tournament in Baldwinsville. Colter Pinney, competing for the first time at the Eastern Nationals took second place and Greggie Lee, took his second consecutive first place title. The boys are members of the Ithaca Pee-wee wrestling group and are coached by Rich Burke.

posticon More Wins for Lansing Track Team

ImageThe Lansing Boys Track team competed at the Bob Scarry Relay Invitational this past Saturday at Moravia. The boys team ended up 3rd in overall points, but had many impressive results and records.  They competed again at Groton Monday against Marathon and Groton. Lansing won against Marathon 96-45 and against Groton 117-24.

Andy Lockwood set a new school record in the shot put with a distance of 54' 4". Rusty Landon also set a new school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.63 seconds.

posticon Lansing Track Girls Compete in PA

Seven members of the Lansing Girls Track team competed in Philadelphia, PA Thursday at the Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Seniors Natalie Usack, and Tiffany Lind, along with junior Christine Fuchs and sophomore Anna Mapes competed in the 4x400mR. Tiffany held her ground in a waterfall start of 14 girls in only six lanes. Christine, Natalie and Anna all ran fantastic legs as well. They all went out hard and finished with a lot of heart and determination!

In the end they posted a time of 4:18.86. Anna Mapes joined Senior Preeti Panda, along with freshman Chloe Ryan and Emily Eisenhut in the 4x100mR. Racing in a strong heat, Chloe went out hard with a great start. Anna, after being tripped by an opponent, got up and finished her leg showing extreme sportsmanship.

The Lansing varsity baseball team completed a 4-0 week with two wins each over Groton and Southern Cayuga. On Monday vs Groton Teagen Barresi and Brent Stull combined on a five hitter allowing one run in an 8-1 win. At the plate, Brian Milliman went 2 for 3 and drove in a run.

On Tuesday, the Bobcats traveled to Groton for a rematch and came out on top 25-1. Justin Payne and Brad Bartlett combined on a three hitter for the victory. Andy Reukauf, Matthew Ford, Teagen Barresi, Kevin Mabry, Brian Milliaman and Kyle Sweazey each had two hits.

posticon Four Games for Ladycat Softball

The Lansing Varsity Softball team has been very busy since Saturday April 28th.  Saturday morning the team left early and traveled to Herkimer, NY to play in the Mudville Tournament.  In our first game we played White Plains, which is a AA school.  We played a great five inning game but ended up losing 4-3.  

In the second game we went up again another AA school, Walton, from the Bronx in New York City.  The Ladycats won 7-6 with doubles from Brittany French, Cassandra Smith, Katie Fenner,  two by Kaycee Nedrow, and one by Breanne Nichols.  Jocelyn Ford had two triples and Cassandra Smith homered for the Ladycats.  This was an awesome experience for everyone involved.

posticon Lansing Tennis Team Scores Two Wins

The tennis team won both matches this week. At TAE Lansing was 6-1 with everyone both 3rd singles winning in 2 sets. Then at Union Springs Lansing won 7-0 with Sadie Purnell at 3rd singles coming back from a first set loss to win the next 2 sets and the match.

The team is home Friday and at Moravia on Monday before the final IAC tournament on May 10th at SUNY-Cortland. We're looking for a strong finish for the season.
