Mark S. LewisMark S. LewisThank You, Lansing Lions Club!
A heartfelt note of thanks goes out from the Lansing Central School District Board of Education and administration for hosting a capital project presentation at its January 15th meeting. The discussion was constructive and enlightening for both the school officials and the Lions, who could not have been more cordial and welcoming. The dinner was great as well! Let’s all get behind the Lions’ plan to construct a band stand at Myers Park. Special Education Program to Highlight January 25th Board of Education Meeting
Special Education Program to be Featured at January 25th Board of Education Meeting
Ms. Pam DiPaola, Director of Special Programs, will update the board of education and all attendees on the myriad changes that have been made (or will be made) in the district’s special education program by virtue of Congress’s reauthorization of the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In addition, Ms. DiPaola will review current and future staffing needs, changes in reporting requirements, New York State test results, educational space needs, and future needs, goals, and plans. Regulations regarding the special education aspect of a school’s overall program are changing and increasing yearly. It is important for all members of the school community to gain insight into the services offered to students, the associated regulations, and the budgetary impact of the school district’s special education program. It is hoped that you will be able to attend.

Elementary Principal Search Update
The district continues to receive applications for the position of principal of R.C. Buckley Elementary School. To date, fifteen applications have been received. The deadline for receipt of applications if February 26th. Following that date, a paper screening of candidates will be completed and selected individuals invited to participate in the interview process. On January 16th, the PTSO sponsored an information session, during which time parents had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the interview process and to provide input regarding the essential attributes, skills, and qualities of the next principal. The interview process is scheduled to run during the month of March. It is anticipated that a candidate will be proposed to the board of education for appointment at the April 4 board meeting. The candidate-select would be expected to start July 1. Parents or community members who wish to participate in the selection process should contact Ms. Kay Thomas, PTSO President (www.lansingptso.com).
