LADIES' NITE:  Perhaps we should feel fortunate when the sign doesn't say Ladys Nite.  At the Institute for the Linguistically Impaired, we teach our patients that using nite, tonite, and lite is as fatuously cute as spelling out one's house number on one's house.  The latter makes an address harder and longer to read, and the former betrays black-velvet-painting-level tackiness.

Writing nite and lite also makes kids think it's right, and these writers and sign makers probably blame the schools for their children's writing problems.
