“It’s going to be cold, but if I can celebrate summer in Ithaca and support the United Way in one jump, I’m in,” said Myrick. “This city is truly a great place to be and it’s an honor to showcase the natural beauty of the community and have fun at the same time.”
Robert H. Treman State Park was named in the Top 10 Swimming Holes in 2012 by Yahoo Travel and is also listed on Bloomberg.com as one of the most beautiful natural swimming holes in the US, which makes the location a perfect backdrop for a summer solstice splash.
This date also marks the United Way’s Day of Action, an annual day of volunteerism that will put helping hands in the park to prepare for another busy season. Getting ready for summer has been a full-time job for State Park employees, as Tompkins County tourism heats up across the local waterfalls.
“It truly feels like summer when the swimming season kicks off at the State Parks,” said Fred Bonn, Regional Director, Finger Lakes State Parks. “The parks provide a draw for locals and visitors alike, and volunteers like those from the United Way are essential in helping us run efficiently all season.”
The community fundraising goal for the mayor’s charity jump is $2,500, all of which will go toward the United Way of Tompkins County’s Hunger and Food Security Campaign. Following the jump, the falls will be open for public swimming and hiking.
