Relay for Life of Tompkins County won the first round of Tompkins Trust Company’s Community Minute Challenge and took home a $1,000 cash prize.  The Community Minute Challenge, a social media contest, is an extension of Tompkins Trust Company’s Community Minute Program, which promotes local non-profits on the radio every month.  At the end of the contest a year from now, one local organization will walk away with $6,000.

Five community organizations competed for the $1,000 prize during the first round of the Challenge.  Competing organizations included Relay for Life of Tompkins County, The Kitchen Theatre Company, The Rotary Club of Ithaca Sunrise, The Coddington Road Community Center, and Family and Children’s Service of Ithaca.  All of these community organizations created minute-long videos explaining how they have had a positive impact in Tompkins County.  During a two week voting blitz, the public voted for their favorite video via the Tompkins Trust Facebook page.

The Community Minute Challenge will continue for three more rounds until there are four $1,000 winners. Relay for Life is the first of these.  Once there are four winners, there will be the final voting blitz, and Tompkins Trust Company will award the grand prize of $5,000.

The second round voting blitz will occur September 15 through 29.
