doa_debstephanie120Seventy-five volunteers gave 223 hours of service valued at approximately $5,000, to 12 local nonprofit organizations during United Way’s annual Days of Action June 19-21. Six businesses participated as a part of the “Stand Up, Stand Out” campaign.

Teams from Cornell University, HOLT Architects, Maguire Family of Dealerships, International Food Network, Taitem Engineering, and CFCU Community Credit Union read stories to children, weeded gardens, laid mulch, pruned trees, and more.

HOLT Architects employees spent half their workday on Friday, June 20 serving brunch to 50 seniors at the Greater Ithaca Activity Center and washing windows at Visiting Nurse Services.

“We are all trying to fit so much into every day, and without the generosity of HOLT Architects and Graham Gillespie, I wouldn’t have been able to be a part of the United Way’s Days of Action,” says Maria Livingston, Director of Marketing and Business Development at HOLT Architects. “There are so many organizations in need of assistance, and being a part of the Days of Action was not only personally gratifying but also made me feel more connected to our community.”

In addition, youth and young adults from the First Ithaca Chinese Christian Church, Tompkins Connect, and United Way of Tompkins County Student Engagement programs gave over 60 hours of service.

June 21 marks the 7th annual United Way Day of Action, a day when people across the globe volunteer with United Way to make their corner of the world a better place for all. This year United Way of Tompkins County expanded the local event to three days: Thursday, June 19 through Saturday, June 21.
