ImageThe reconstruction of Triphammer Road is going slower than planned.  For a project this big some overages are to be expected.  The problem seems to be with the utility companies.  All began late, possibly pushing the finishing date into next year.

The federally funded project will transform the Village portion of Triphammer Road into a three lane road with North and South lanes and a center turning lane.  Bicycle paths and sidewalks will line both sides of the road.  In addition  water, sewer and storm sewer work is being done, and NYSEG has installed new utility poles.

"You have to go in layers," explained the Village Clerk/Treasurer, Jodi Dake.  NYSEG had to install the new poles and put their equipment on them.  Then Time Warner Cable could move their equipment from the old poles to the new.  Currently Verizon is moving their equipment.  Once this is done the old poles can be removed and sewer work can be done under their current location.

Verizon is plans to be finished on August 1, but it looks like the work will take longer.  They were originally supposed to complete the work in the beginning of June.  Because of the delays the Village Board of Trustees fears the work will be stretched into next year, forcing them to put a temporary coating on the road for the winter.  Still the board is confident that cost overruns will be manageable.

Meanwhile traffic has been flowing steadily, if slower than usual.  Mayor Donald Hartill reported that there have been fewer complaints than expected about the traffic delays.  When a couple of local radio stations mis-reported the location of road work some local businesses complained, but Deputy Mayor Larry Fresinski arranged for them to get their road work news from the one official source the Village has set up (which the Star uses to report road work in the upper right corner of this and all our pages).  Mayor Hartill noted that he would like to expand the project to enlarge the North bound off-ramp to include another lane, and is following up to see if that is possible.
