Wednesday's Board of Education meeting began with a rendition of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Lansing 8th grader Fiona Lory-Moran.  The occasion was School Board Appreciation Week.  Lory-Moran is playing Dorothy in the upcoming Lansing Middle School production of 'The Wizard of Oz'.  She was accompanied on the piano by middle school music teacher Lucas Hibbard.

"I want to thank the Board of Education for all your work," said Lansing School Superintendent Chris Pettograsso.  "New York State Board of Education Week is a time that reminds us to say thank you.  I am delighted to see all the emails from the community to the Board."

The school district leadership team sent a congratulatory picture, the first grade team sent doughnuts, and Pettograsso gave each board member organic apple sauce and pear butter from her own family.

"I take great pleasure in bragging about this school board," said School Business Administrator Mary June King.  "I love to get together with my family so I can tell them how functional this school board is.  And especially that you're functional and you're not rubber-stamping anything.  You are deliberate and engaged, and I appreciate that."

The middle school production of 'The Wizard of Oz' is slated for November 11-14 at the Middle School Auditorium.
