The two runners up included a vegetarian chickpea mash made from a chickpea salad on pumpernickel submitted by the Human Service Coalition staff and a Polish inspired kielbasa and potato latke sandwich on rye submitted by Ian Mahoney and Jaclyn Petruzzelli.
The winning sandwich - titled 'The Nessa' - is made from waffles, crispy chicken, hot sauce, maple syrup, and cheddar cheese.
All three finalist sandwiches are now on the menu at all Ithaca Bakery and Collegetown Bagels locations. A portion of the proceeds from these sandwiches will be donated to United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC), and all funds will be invested in local food programs.
