recyclingNovember 15th is America Recycles Day (ARD), the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling and waste reduction in the U.S.  Residents in Tompkins County are recycling more than ever, as the County moves toward a goal of 75% waste diversion by 2020.

Staff members of the Tompkins County Solid Waste Division (TCSW) will be on hand at local businesses promoting various recycling initiatives and encouraging residents to sign the "Be Recycled" pledge, affirming their commitment to a recycling lifestyle.

On Monday, November 14th, TCSW will be at Finger Lakes ReUse in the Triphammer Marketplace from 11am to 1pm and at P&C Fresh in East Hill Plaza from 4pm to 6pm. At both locations, customers will be able to pick up food scraps recycling toolkits for use at any of the County's eight drop spots. Additionally, donations of used clothing and unwanted textiles will be accepted at Finger Lakes ReUse, which will offer a 10% discount to anyone signing the "Be Recycled" pledge.

On Tuesday, November 15th, Solid Waste Division staff will be at Gimme! Coffee on West State Street in Ithaca from 8am to 10am and at the new Ithaca ReUse Center on Elmira Road from 11am to 1pm. Food scraps recycling toolkits will be distributed at both locations, with clothing and textile donations accepted at Ithaca ReUse.  In addition, Gimme! customers signing the 'Be Recycled' pledge will receive a coupon for 10% off the purchase of any of Gimme's reusable serviceware.  Pledge takers at Ithaca ReUse will be able to take 10% off their next purchase.

The Tompkins County Legislature will also recognize local recycling efforts by issuing a proclamation at Tuesday night's meeting proclaiming November 15th as America Recycles Day in Tompkins County.
