New York, NY - Seneca Lake Guardian announced a new scholarship Thursday to be presented annually to a Finger Lakes area High School senior seeking a degree in environmental law. The Deborah Goldberg Environmental Stewardship Scholarship was named in honor of Deborah Goldberg, Managing Attorney for the Northeast Regional Office at Earthjustice. Earthjustice has provided legal assistance in many local environmental battles including the fight against fracking and the campaign to defeat the Crestwood LPG storage proposal.
The namesake scholarship was presented to Goldberg at retirement party hosted by Earthjustice at Pier A Harbor in New York.
"Not only is Deborah a brilliant attorney, she is also a genius when it comes to having her finger on the pulse of the political world that is enmeshed with the environmental issues she has fought for. She is championed as a quick-witted, hold-no-punches eco-protector whose dedication to the Finger Lakes Region will never be forgotten. She has also become a dear friend over the years. We couldn't think of a better way to honor her than by fostering Finger Lakes students who are pursuing a career in environmental law to follow her lead," said Yvonne Taylor, Vice President of Seneca Lake Guardian.
