Ithaca City School District (ICSD) Superintendent Dr. Luvelle C. Brown is spearheading a new program, the Aspiring Educators Award Program, to encourage ICSD high school students to consider careers in education.
The Aspiring Educators Award Program will recognize selected ICSD students who show promise as potential future educators and educational leaders. The program will be open to rising juniors and/or seniors from under-represented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing teaching as a profession.
Students selected to the Aspiring Educators Award Program will be provided mentorship opportunities with ICSD teachers and administrators, and will be included in professional development activities that expose them to the education profession.
"Our hope is to expand on the pipeline of talented individuals who come back to contribute to our local schools, with exposure to the amazing benefits associated with being a professional educator," said Brown.
The first recipient(s) of the Aspiring Educators Award will be introduced at the school district's annual Convocation in September 2019. Applications for the Aspiring Educators Award program will be available during the preceding spring of each school year. Criteria will be communicated to high school students, teachers, and parents.
The Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI) is providing support for Brown's vision and mission as district leader by creating the ICSD Superintendent Fund.
