Sciencenter Executive Director, Dean Briere has been elected to the Association of Science and Technology Centers' (ASTC) Board of Trustees. Briere's three-year term will begin after his induction during the ASTC Annual Conference, September 21 – 24, in Toronto.
ASTC is a global organization providing professional support, and programming opportunities for science centers, museums, planetariums, aquariums, and related institutions. ASTC works to increase awareness of the contributions its members make to their communities and the field of informal STEM learning. The organization represents over 600 members in nearly 50 countries.
"We are grateful for [Dean's] service on ASTC's Finance Committee and Governance Task Force, and [his] contributions to and leadership in the field at large," said Cristin Dorgelo, President and CEO of ASTC. "As we pivot to implement ASTC's new strategic direction this year and in the next few years, [his] input and ideas on the future direction of science centers and on the financial and strategic decisions facing ASTC will be very useful to me and the broader board."
Briere is excited for the role that he will play on the ASTC Board of Trustees and is looking forward to the impact it will have on ASTC's strategic direction, as well as the Sciencenters'.
"I am honored to have been elected by the ASTC membership to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees, to help guide the organization in its new strategic direction," said Briere. "I believe the similarity between ASTC's strategic goals, particularly as they relate to public engagement with science and an equitable future, and the Sciencenter's strategic framework goals with respect to science, community, and accessibility will provide a unique perspective that I hope will be of value to Cristin and her team. And I am pleased that by serving in this role, the Sciencenter is taking another step in representing small and mid-size science museums, a goal of the Sciencenter's new Strategic Framework."
