Lansing kids are helped man the Tompkins County 4H booth at the New York State Fair this past week, helping fair-goers learn about 4H activities and projects. Ian Garnett, his sister Kim, Jason Ruoff and Chris Archer are all helping out.

They work at the booth in two hour shifts, splitting the responsibility between four teams. There are five shifts per day so a team might work one or two shifts.

Ian has been a 4H member for eight years. "I like the variety of activities," he says. Chris, also with eight years in 4H told us, "I've found good friends." Jason's favorite event is the annual April rubber duck race, held to raise money for the club. He has been a participant for 7 years.

The Tompkins County booth had many projects on display. Glass cases of butterflies drew attendees' attention. Members worked with visitors to make art cards, small original works of art that kids can make and trade with friends. Clothing, quilts and other projects were also displayed.

The three Lansing boys came on Sunday (8/28) and stayed until Thursday. They appeared to enjoy helping out and each other's company. The crowd was certainly enjoying the activities and displays.
