Ithaca …  The Tompkins County SPCA announced that June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat month.  In honor of the millions of homeless cats throughout the country that are in need of a good home, the SPCA of Tompkins County is giving away  prizes to pet lovers all through the month of June.

Every cat or kitten adoption will receive one free entry into a grand prize raffle drawing for a huge basket full of goodies for felines and humans alike.  In addition, each kitten adopted will get a free set of Soft-Paws.  Raffle tickets can also be purchased.  The grand prize drawing will be held at the end of the month.

The estimated population of homeless cats in the United States (70 million) is almost equal to the number of owned cats (75 million).

With hundreds of cats in every shape, size, age, color, and personality at the TCSPCA, there’s never been a better time to save a life and adopt a shelter cat.  According to The Berlin Longevity Institute, cats can add as much as 10 years to their owners’ lives.  Picking up a cat has a nearly instantaneous calming effect on humans, causing blood pressure to drop and the heart rate to slow.
