The Lansing Board of Education announced they have selected C&S Design Build, Inc. to act as construction manager on the proposed capital improvement plan. C&S provides pre-referendum services, helping to define the nuts and bolts aspects of the project so voters know what they are voting to approve, as well as project management for government agency construction projects. Jim Slavetskas, who has acted as liaison on earlier construction and maintenance programs for the Board will continue in that role on this project.

C&S's Joe Delaney made a presentation to the Board at their last regular meeting, explaining the services his company offers. He told the board, "We use our experience to get the project done on budget and on time."

During the design phase they develop a detailed budget using contractor-style estimates. They also develop the schedule. Once construction begins they make sure the contractors stay on schedule, and manage the budget. "As the Construction Manager we're really the quarterback," said Mr. Delaney.
C&S will control the cost, schedule, quality and documentation for the project. They use an on-line system so that Board members will be able to track progress from day to day.

The company will be working with King and King Architects during the planning phase. The latter firm is adapting the plan according to a document being developed by Interim Superintendent Tiffany Phillips that draws a direct connection between school program needs and what elements are included in the proposed building plan. This document shoulc be completed around the end of October.
