ImageAn ongoing collaboration between the SPCA of Tompkins County and The Jewelbox & Micky Roof Designer/Goldsmith has already raised over $900.00 in its first full month of activity.  The Buddy Tag, a sterling silver charm designed by Micky Roof and embossed with the SPCA’s iconic logo, is quickly becoming a must-have item for anyone who has ever adopted pets from, or supported, our local SPCA.

Sold exclusively at The Jewelbox in Ithaca, NY, Buddy Tags are packaged as charms for people and their pets, and can be customized with gems, or fashioned to be a tie tack, a pin, or key chain. 14k yellow gold Buddy Tags are also available for special order.  With 50% of the proceeds from each sale going directly to the SPCA, Buddy Tags allow people to literally show their support, and with $930.00 raised in April alone, this ongoing fundraiser is definitely finding its legs in supporting an organization that helps our four-legged friends.

Stephanie Winston Vann, Director of Marketing for the The Jewelbox says “Almost every employee here at The Jewelbox has adopted pets from our SPCA.  Our pets are our buddies, so it made perfect sense to call the charms “Buddy Tags” because, seriously, where would we be without our buddies?  And the SPCA of Tompkins County is this great “buddy system” so to speak. Safety, security, and companionship works both ways, for animals and humans alike.  Buddy Tags help support the SPCA of Tompkins County by creating necessary funds for basic necessities like food and medical care, but they also create awareness because the logo is just so darned cute.”

The Jewelbox joins a growing list of businesses finding creative ways to help the SPCA and hopes that the sales of the charms will increase and provide even more revenue for the SPCA every month.

Executive Director Abigail Smith says “Buddy Tags are a great and meaningful gift, perfect for birthdays, graduation, and other special events.  I hope all of our local college volunteers ask for Buddy Tags as graduation gifts so they will have something tangible to show for their experience at our shelter. We are so grateful to The Jewelbox for supporting us in this wonderful way.”
