A Homewood Suites hotel is going to be constructed on the site of the long closed movie theater on Cinema Drive behind the Triphammer Mall. "They'll be tearing down the cinema theater, probably next year, and they'll build there," says Village of Lansing Planning Board Chairman, Ned Hickey.
Homewood Suites is owned by Hilton Hotels. They offer one and two bedroom suites with kitchens, complimentary high speed Internet access, dining room table, and telephones with voice mail, among other items. They have business centers in their hotels so a traveler can live and work in the hotel while visiting the Ithaca area.
The hotel on the Lansing site will be a 91 unit residential hotel for people who come for three days to about a week. They could open by late Fall of next year, says Mr. Hickey. Triphammer Development Corporation, which owns the property will be adjusting the size of the lot to provide the 116 parking spaces the hotel will need. The adjustment will enlarge the lot by 3,100 square feet.
Mr. Hickey reports that Richard Thaler has predicted the lot just south of the hotel will be used for a new office building. "That will be the end of high traffic commercial property for us, unless we change the zoning, which is doubtful," says Mr. Hickey.
