Five SUNY Oswego students were among the 350 honorees from across New York state recognized for high grade-point average and contributions to the campus and community. Students graduating between June 2010 and May 2011 were eligible. SUNY Chancellor's Award recipients were honored in an April ceremony in Albany.
Dean also received the Oswego Women's Scholar Athlete Award at SUNY Oswego's Honors Convocation.
She was the captain and a record-setting member of the Laker women's swimming and diving team. She made the SUNY Athletic Conference All-Academic List the past three years. Among her academic honors, she received a campus grant to study the biomechanics of a fossil pterosaur using CT scanning and the Doug Halliday Research Fellowship to conduct independent research during the summer. She spent six weeks doing research in South Africa and interned at Big Cat Rescue. She is a member of Tau Sigma, the transfer student honor society. She is applying for Peace Corps service. She is the daughter of Marty and Patti Dean.
Other Oswego recipients were Michelle Hamann of Peru, Maine, Adam King of Houston, Texas, Courtney Lupton of Central Square and Joshua Valentino of Mexico.
Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News named it among the "Top Public Regional Universities in the North" for 2011, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges."
A 150-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls over 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
