myers_beach120Despite the flooding earlier in the season Myers Park is raring to go.  The park staff has repaired most of the flood damage, Myers Point is out from under water, and reservations are hopping.  A new flag pole has being purchased with grant money, and work has been completed on the lighthouse.  The Parks & Recreation Department has been very busy both repairing and preparing the park for the summer onslaught of park visitors, events, and recreation programs.

Registration for summer recreation programs has been hectic for the past five weeks.  The Parks & Recreation Department has already taken in just under $57,000 in recreation program fees.  Eight new programs are set for the summer and fall booklet, which was finished this week.  Baseball and softball programs have wrapped up and the travel teams are starting now.  This summer six levels of travel teams will play from the end of June through the end of August.

The swimming season is set to begin Monday, June 27th.  The swimming beach will be opened seven days a week through the season.

The first Concert in the Park is set for July 7th.  Finding Tomorrow, a popular local band of graduating Lansing High School seniors will play that night.  Rounding out the Thursday nights season is Bad Alibi, Mile Drive, Tailor Made, Iron Horse, The Prophets, and the DixieCats.  This year a new Friday 'unplugged' series in Ludlowville Park will feature The Lone Rangers July 15, Ludlowville musician Paul Kemkes July 22, and Kip and Rich July 29th.

THis year also marks a change in how visitors to the park are admitted.  Resident passes are available to Lansing residents for free.  More than 1000 resident passes have been issued so far, both at the Town Hall and at the park.  Non-residents pay a small fee.

Camping reservations are sold out for every day in July.  August reservations are going fast, and Park Superintendent Steve Colt estimates it will be sold out within two or three weeks.

Other park events are also in the works.  Fireworks and concerts are planned for July 2nd.  The Lansing Lions Club annual 4th of July barbecue is set for the 4th, and the 5th Annual Lansing Harbor Festival is set for August 13th.
