nozzolio_120In recognition of his efforts to preserve the important programs and services provided by local libraries, State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been advised by the New Yorkers for Better Libraries organization that he has received their top legislative rating. Nozzolio received an “A” grade from the statewide organization of library leaders for his support of legislation to improve public library systems and efforts to restore library funding in the State Budget.

“Libraries are not only an indispensable component of our education system in New York State, they are also essential to our economic future. In addition to offering programs and services on a wide array of topics to children, adults, and senior citizens, libraries also provide information on searching for jobs, preparing for job interviews, and developing resumes,” said Nozzolio. “I thank New Yorkers for Better Libraries for this important recognition, as well as all of the dedicated librarians and staff at our libraries for their outstanding service to our communities.”

During this year’s State budget debate, Nozzolio worked aggressively with his colleagues in the State Senate and was successful in restoring over $3 million in proposed cuts to State funding for public libraries. Nozzolio also co-sponsored legislation (S.4053) that was adopted by the State Legislature and signed into law to authorize public library systems to apply for local government efficiency grants.

“From information on employment opportunities to nutrition, education, medicine, travel and recreation, our libraries are a key source of information and a gathering place for our local communities,” said Nozzolio. “As more and more families are turning to their local libraries for assistance with virtually every aspect of their lives, I will continue fighting to enable our libraries to provide the many services and materials needed by our local communities.”
