Buffalo Business First Magazine has ranked Lansing 7th in academic performance among 53 public school districts in the Syracuse area.  The rankings were based on four years of data from tests from the New York State Education Department.  The district also ranked in the top 100 among 430 upstate districts for most efficient administration and highest teacher salaries.

The area studied included schools in Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego and Tompkins counties.  Schools considered had to have at least 260 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, a functioning public high school, and at least two years of qualifying test results within the four year period.  Test data qualified in years in which school enrollments were 260 or more students.  Lansing was top ranked in Tompkins County, followed by Ithaca (10), Trumansburg (22), Newfield (26), Dryden (31), and Groton (47).

Lansing made the top 100 in the magazine's analyses of upstate New York School districts with the most efficient administrations.  430 districts in 48 counties in upstate New York were compared.  Lansing was ranked 25.

In another Buffalo Business First ranking Lansing made the list of the 100 top paying upstate schools.  In this study Lansing was ranked as the 95th top paying out of 430 districts, with Remsen number 1 and Albany number 2 on the list.  Again Lansing ranked on top of Tompkins County school districts, followed by (from highest paying to lowest) Groton, Trumansburg, Ithaca, Dryden, and Newfield. 

This study ranked teacher salaries at five points in a teacher's career.  While Lansing salaries in the 5th percentile are lower than Groton and Trumansburg, salaries in the 25th, 50th, 75th, and 95th percentiles are higher than in all other districts in Tompkins County.  Salaries in Lansing ranges from a low of $39,357 in the 5th percentile to $83,712 in the 95th.
