allinger_walk120In five days of 'Walkin’ the Country' 103.7 QCountry’s Chris Allinger has raised more than $26,000. For the second year, Q Country morning host, Chris Allinger strapped on his backpack to walk for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s BackPack Program™.  From September 9th-13th Chris Allinger walked to every town in Tompkins County raising funds for the program that helps feed children at risk of hunger on weekends and holidays during the school year.

“I couldn’t be happier with the result.  People got the message that there are children going hungry right here in our County,” said Allinger. “We went out and asked for $3.00 to feed a child for a weekend.  Look what happens when a community comes together.”

A Cayuga Radio Group spokesman thanked Andy Noel and Cornell Athletics & Physical Education staff, Ithaca College, Jerry Dietz and CSP Management, Eagles, Jim Ray Homes, Tompkins County Sherriff’s Department, Roman Village, the Ithaca Professional Firefighters Association, Yogurt Crazy, John Marclotte and Cargill Feed and Nutrition, and all of the community.

The Food Bank’s BackPack Program™ provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when children do not have access to school meal programs. Each Friday children in need receive a bag of simple, easy to prepare nutritious food to get them through weekends and holidays. These children, who rely on school meal programs for sustenance, may otherwise go without when school is not in session.
